The King Philip Jazz Ensemble was recently accepted into the 30th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Festival and Competition. This is the second year in a row that the band will attend this prestigious event.
High school jazz bands around the country submit recordings, annually, of the music of Duke Ellington for blind evaluation. This year there were a record number of submissions and, in celebration of the 30th year, King Philip was selected as one of 30 finalists. As the band prepares for a performance at Lincoln Center in May they will work to memorize their selections and will be visited by a member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra to provide expert feedback on their performance. In 2024 the band was visited by JLCO Trumpeter Marcus Printup.
