We are ON for Saturday and the weather looks GREAT! Don't forget sunscreen, hats and plenty of water!

Please read through this before Saturday's practice so the students are set up for success. Our collective compliance with these policies honors the health and well-being of our members, our staff, and their families. We are very lucky to have this opportunity to gather, make music, and perform!

I will be reiterating all of this with our students in our initial meeting on Saturday.

What to Bring/Wear to Practice
  • Mask.
  • Back-up mask just in case!
  • Instrument/Equipment (we will have percussion equipment & extra flags)
  • Plenty of water. We recommend an insulated water jug. Students will not have building access to refill their water jugs.
  • Comfortable clothing that you can move in easily. Shirts must stay on in rehearsal.
  • Comfortable sneakers. No sandals or open-toed shoes.
  • A hat or visor with a brim.
  • Sunblock. Reapply as necessary.
  • Pocket hand sanitizer.
  • Any music you have. We will have extra copies but encourage you to print your parts, if possible. We recommend putting your music in a 3-ring binder with clear-plastic inserts to keep it from blowing away.
  • Stick Bag with your personal mallets & sticks (Percussion only)

  • Lunch.
Part Assignments

Have been emailed to students in the wind and percussion sections.
Restrooms
There are portable toilets at the turf field which are sanitized daily. There is also a hand-washing station.
Medical Supplies
We will have a basic medical kit at practices including ice packs, over-the-counter comfort medication, hand sanitizer, water, bandaids, feminine hygiene products, and extra masks. This kit will be with Mr. Keough.
Lunch
Students are not allowed to leave campus during the lunch break. They can either bring lunch from home or have food dropped off for them at 1pm. This may be a good time to drop off additional water. Students will eat lunch in the bus loop and dispose of all of their trash. Please do not drive through this area during lunch.

Distancing/Mask Breaks
Students must maintain 6' distancing with masks on and 10' distancing during mask breaks. Students should keep their masks on unless directed to remove it. Students will have regular mask breaks during rehearsal.

Drop Off & Pickup
Students should not congregate at the beginning or end of practice. We are asking that you give students in the car ahead of you ample time and space to get out before you unload. Please have your mask affixed before you get out of the car.

Screening for Covid Symptoms
If a student is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, has been exposed to anyone with symptoms of COVID-19, or has been exposed to anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19, that student should stay home. A list of those symptoms is attached to this email.

Absence from Rehearsal
If a student will be absent from, late to, or needs to be dismissed early from a practice please email Mr. Keough.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you have any questions please be in touch.

MARCHING BAND UNIFORM CARE AND INSTRUCTIONS

Just a few brief instructions as we approach the Preview Show and the competitive season. The uniforms you have been assigned and specially fitted to add to the visual effect of the show and we want to make every attempt possible to keep them looking great for years to come.
  • The uniforms will remain at the high school at all times, they must never be taken home.
  • You will be assigned a "bag number" for the season. Within the garment bag will be your uniform ( shirt and pants) .
  • You will need to wear a black t-shirt under your uniform and you may want to consider a long sleeved one as we get later in the season. You can wear shorts or thermal pants as long as any long pants do not show at the bottom of the uniform pants.
  • You will need to wear mid -calf length black socks
  • Always remember your marching band shoes for every performance. Shoes should be kept in a shoe bag or a plastic bag and taken home for cleaning after each competition
  • Before every show you will be given instructions by Mr. Keough about the timing of getting into your uniform. Sometimes on long journeys, this may mean getting dressed on the busses.
  • There is to be no eating in uniforms.
  • Following your performance, it is important that your uniform be hung correctly in the garment bag. Please ask another student or parent for help if you are not sure.
    • Pants should be folded along the pressed crease (seam to seam) and hung so that they lie flat on the hanger.
    • Then hang up your shirt over the hanger like you would to hang it in your closet.
    • Uniform bags need to be hung on the uniform racks in correct numerical order after being checked by a parent.   A PARENT MUST CHECK ALL UNIFORMS BEFORE THEY ARE HUNG UP!
Hair care for this season:
  • We will not be wearing hats of any kind this year.
  • All band members that play an instrument will need to have their hair pulled back into one or two French braids, as of now.
  • Rule of thumb if your hair can fit into even the smallest pony tail, your hair needs to be pulled back into a French braid
  • You will need to bring your own brush, hair elastics and bobby pins.

SHOES OR ANY OTHER ITEMS SHOULD NOT BE LEFT IN YOUR UNIFORM BAG.

If you have any questions about the uniform please let Mrs. LaBerge, Mrs. Vierkant or Mrs. Jannell know and we will be happy to answer them.

Looking forward to another amazing season!

Jan LaBerge, Lisa Vierkant and
Janet Jannell
